City of Gothenburg
App design, UI/UX
Create a digital product that enables financial meetings between business / private individuals and organizations in civil society. The product must: Be based on the concept Crowdfunding / Make visible which donors are participating / Create interaction between organizations and donors. The purpose of the product is to strengthen organizations that are involved in the four target areas and thus improve the living conditions for vulnerable people in Gothenburg.
Crowdfunding: The practice of funding a project or venture by raising money from a large number of people who each contribute a relatively small amount, typically via the Internet.
1. Businesses or private individuals who care about developing Gothenburg for the better
2. Businesses that want to create positive associations to their brand by highlighting their donations to charity in Gothenburg.
I chose to create an app where the app is the very tool for the financial meeting. During the project I focused on solving two questions – How do organizations make people believe in what they do? and – What can the organizations give back to the donors? I believe that these two questions establish the foundation for a successful Donation-Based Crowdfunding.
I strived to create a platform where organizations' campaigns are presented in a clear, and at the same time, visually appealing way. Well crafted campaigns will give the donors the impression of that the organizations put effort in what they do, which increases the probability that users will contribute with gifts. Users will also be motivated to donate by seeing other people's activity around the campaigns, and that’s why other donor’s comments and donations are displayed in the app. Another motivation will be (for target group 2) that their business name will be highlighted – which might work as “positive association advertisement” for them.
When a crowdfunding campaign is succeeded it is most common that the venture shares dividends with its donors – this ”method” motivates users to invest from the very beginning. So what kind of benefits can charity organisations in this context share with their donors? Well, emotions! The app has an inbox where you receive personal follow-ups from the organisations. The follow-ups could contain statistical results and a letter of thanks, or a video about specifically the person or persons you have helped. The donor will thru this see that he/she made an important difference, and a good conscience will be his reward.
It took some time to understand the concept of crowdfunding and the psychological aspect of it – which was needed knowledge for a project like this. It was a challenge to create a product for such a large and abstract subject. It was also a challenge to deliver a finished prototype, user journey map and financial flows after only one week of work. But the reward was the greater when we got the opportunity to present our work for the City Of Gothenburg, within such an important subject.
